The Ascendance of a Bookworm anime is going back to school. The series' official website has confirmed that the novels' Part 4, subtitled Founder of the Royal Academy's So-Called Library Committee, is being adapted for television, with WIT STUDIO once again handling animation.

The confirmation was published on the official site on 3 October 2026, the same day the Part 3 anime, Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, aired its final episode. That season ran for two consecutive cours after premiering on 4 April on Yomiuri TV and NTV, with Yuka Iguchi returning as Rozemyne and Show Hayami as Ferdinand.

Part 3 was directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki at WIT STUDIO, with Mariko Kunisawa on series scripts, Aiko Minowa as character designer and MICHIRU composing the music. Rozemyne's second outing followed the 2019 debut season and its 2020 and 2022 successors, all of which streamed on Crunchyroll as they aired.

What Part 4 covers

Part 4 opens after a roughly two-year magical slumber. Rozemyne wakes to a world that has moved on without her and is promptly enrolled at the Royal Academy, the noble school where students learn to channel mana, mix magical tools and, for the heirs among them, study the magic of ruling a province.

The official synopsis is candid about where her priorities lie. Sharing dormitory life with eccentric teachers and children from rival duchies should be the point of the year, but the discovery that the academy houses a large library rather than any interest in royalty is what sends Rozemyne charging off. It is a fitting stage for a series whose heroine has always treated books as the mission and everything else as admin.

A series that keeps growing

Miya Kazuki began the story on the user-generated novel site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2013 and finished the web run in 2017. TO Books publishes the print edition with illustrations by You Shiina, and the wider franchise now counts more than 13 million copies in circulation, including digital. The main series concluded with its 33rd volume, the twelfth of Part 5, in December 2023, while J-Novel Club releases the light novels and several manga spin-offs in English.

Our opinion

Keeping WIT STUDIO on the books is the smartest call here. Bookworm is not a property that survives a visual reset: its appeal is patience, paperwork and the slow accumulation of trust between a girl and a world that keeps underestimating her, and a studio that has already spent a full year inside that rhythm will not need to relearn it. The bigger question is scope. The Royal Academy arc is where the novels widen from a single household into a map of feuding duchies and a magic system with actual rules, and a cour that tries to sprint through that expansion would squander the very thing that makes the show unusual. Give it room to breathe and the payoff should be worth the wait.
