The official trailer for BanG Dream! Ave Mujica prima aurora has arrived, and it comes with a new song from the band.

What's actually going on

The trailer was released on Monday and previews “A Song of Romance”, a new Ave Mujica track. The song is already available to stream, giving the film a single to arrive with rather than one to follow it.

Prima Aurora premieres on 16 October 2026. The voice cast returns from the television series: Kanon Takao as Sakiko Togawa, also known as Oblivionis, Yuzuki Watase as Mutsumi Wakaba (Mortis), Rico Sasaki as Uika Misumi (Doloris), Akane Yonezawa as Nyamu Yutenji (Amoris) and Mei Okada as Umiri Yahata (Timoris).

The band’s first television series, Ave Mujica: The Die is Cast, debuted in January 2025, animated by Sanzigen and directed by Kodai Kakimoto. A sequel series to it is scheduled for January 2027, which means the film lands between the two.

Why you should care

Ave Mujica are unusual among anime bands because the music is not a soundtrack to the story — it is the story. The band members perform masked, with stage names and invented personas, and the television series built its drama directly on that conceit. A new song arriving with the trailer is therefore closer to a plot announcement than a promotional single.

The production side matters too. Sanzigen works in 3D CG, and Kakimoto’s direction gave The Die is Cast a stage-like visual language with hard lighting and deliberate camera work. The film appears to keep it: the trailer is built around a single figure playing guitar under deep red light rather than a montage of plot beats.

The calendar is worth noting as well. A film in October followed by a television sequel in January 2027 is a fast cadence for any franchise, and it suggests Bandai Namco is treating Ave Mujica as a headline property rather than a spin-off from MyGO!!!!! — which is what the group originally was.

For anyone new to the series, the film is a difficult entry point. It follows directly from The Die is Cast, and the emotional weight of the story depends on knowing these characters already. Start with the television series.

Our opinion

This is how a music-led anime film should be sold. Pairing the trailer with the actual song gives the audience something to hold on to ahead of October, and it keeps the band’s identity at the centre instead of burying it behind plot teasers. “A Song of Romance” is doing real work here, not decorating a trailer.

The only caution is expectations. Prima Aurora has to justify a cinema ticket between two television series, and films that slot into an ongoing story often end up as expensive connective tissue. The material suggests Ave Mujica can carry a proper feature. The trailer has already done its job — the song is on repeat, and October is now a date worth circling.
