From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman season 2 Blu-ray
Happinet will release the second season of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman as a two-volume Japanese Blu-ray set next spring, with each volume priced at 19,800 yen including tax.
The second season of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is coming to Japanese Blu-ray. Happinet Media Marketing and Nikkatsu will release it in two volumes, the upper volume on 3 March 2027 and the lower on 2 April 2027, at 19,800 yen including tax each, according to the press release published on 23 September 2026.
What the discs carry
The physical extras are the reason the set exists at this price. Each volume ships in a sleeve drawn by character designer Hayasaka Satsuki and includes a booklet built around a newly written novel by author Sagazaki Shigeru with a cover illustration by Nabeshima Tetsuhiro, plus a soundtrack CD of Takanashi Yasuharu's score, split across the two volumes.
On the discs themselves, the upper volume carries the non-credit opening and ending sequences, and the lower volume carries a collection of promotional videos and commercials. Six retailers are running their own bonuses: Animate, Sofmap and Animega, Amazon, Gamers, Joshin Disc Pier and Seven Net, with drawn acrylic stands, storage boxes, tapestries and keyrings depending on the shop.
Japan only, and this is not the third season
The release states plainly that this is Japanese home video. No overseas disc edition has been announced, even though the series streams internationally on Prime Video, where the first season reached the top ten in more than 45 countries. Anyone outside Japan wanting to own the second season on disc has no announced route to it.
The announcement landed the same day the official site confirmed a third season, while the second season is still being broadcast, and it repeats the series' scale for context: 11 million copies in circulation across the original novels by Sagazaki Shigeru and Nabeshima Tetsuhiro, the manga adaptation and two spin-off titles. The second season is animated by Passione and Hayabusa Film, with Aoi Kazumi directing and Okada Kunihiko on series composition.
Our opinion
Two volumes at 19,800 yen each is collector pricing, and the booklet novel is what justifies it rather than the video, which most buyers already have on a streaming subscription. That is a defensible arrangement for the audience this is aimed at, and it is a reminder that Japanese home video survives on extras that are not on the disc. What the announcement also shows is how sharply the industry still divides: a series that travels worldwide through Prime Video still has its physical edition fenced into one market, with region-free ownership left to imports. The third season gets commissioned while the second is still airing, yet the second season cannot be bought on disc outside Japan until someone decides it is worth the paperwork.
