Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is heading into a new format. WeirdCo says its second Cyberpunk Trading Card Game set, Edgerunners: Burn Bright, will launch in spring 2027, bringing characters, weapons, cyberware and memorable scenes from the Netflix anime into the tabletop game.1

The expansion follows the first Cyberpunk Trading Card Game set, Welcome to Night City, whose Kickstarter campaign was announced in March. WeirdCo co-founder Elliot Cook said the response from the community had encouraged the company to make the follow-up more ambitious, with new ways to build crews and compete.

The set is designed for existing players as well as newcomers. Its cards will focus on the anime’s cast and visual identity, while premium artwork, foil treatments and textured finishes are planned for the collection. WeirdCo has also teased a new chase rarity, although it has not yet explained how difficult those cards will be to find.

The announcement gives fans a clearer idea of what the expansion will cover, but it does not yet provide a precise release date, price or full card list. Those details are likely to arrive closer to launch. The company has confirmed that the set is scheduled for spring 2027 rather than promising a specific day.

The timing also links the card game to the wider return of the franchise. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners remains a Netflix property set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and the anime’s characters provide a recognisable identity for a set that otherwise has to appeal to competitive card-game players. That makes Burn Bright more than a routine second wave of cards: it is the game’s first major move into the anime’s cast and imagery.

Our opinion

The sensible part of this announcement is that WeirdCo is expanding the game around a clearly defined subject rather than simply adding more generic cards. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has a strong visual language and a cast fans already recognise, so the premium treatments and chase rarity have an obvious role if the card designs live up to the source material. The risk is availability: collectible expansions can become frustrating when the most interesting cards are locked behind scarcity. Until WeirdCo explains the rarity structure and release distribution, the set looks promising, but the details matter as much as the neon artwork.
