Dreamland anime reveals Terence's first episode
Dreamland's first episode follows Terence as he overcomes his fear of fire and awakens in a world made from dreams and nightmares.
The first episode of Dreamland (ドリームランド) is set to introduce Terence, a teenager who turns his fear of fire into the ability to travel through a world born from dreams and nightmares.1 Episode one, titled “Terence”, begins airing in Japan on 17 October 2026 through the ANiMAZiNG!!! slot on the ABC TV and TV Asahi network.1
According to the episode preview, Terence has been haunted by nightmares since losing his mother in a fire. He eventually realises that he is dreaming, overcomes his fear and awakens as a Traveler — a person able to enter Dreamland.1
The official anime site describes Dreamland as a second world created from people's dreams and nightmares. The series follows Terence as he explores that world while carrying the memory of his mother and learning to control fire.2
The anime adapts Reno Lemaire's French manga and is produced by Ellipse and La Chouette Compagnie. Juan Pablo Machado directs, while the Japanese version features a localised cast including Shō Hatano as Terence, Asami Tano as Eve and Kaede Hondo as Lydia.2 Ellipse's production listing describes the show as a 10-episode, 22-minute comedy-adventure-fantasy series made in 2D.3
Crunchyroll has also published an official teaser for the adaptation, showing the fiery imagery at the centre of Terence's story.4
Our opinion
Dreamland has a clear hook: a coming-of-age fantasy that turns a protagonist's trauma into the doorway to its larger world. The French origin gives the adaptation a distinct identity, while the Japanese localisation and broadcast rollout make it an unusually cross-cultural anime launch. The first episode will need to establish Terence's emotional journey without rushing past the rules of Dreamland, but the premise gives it a strong starting point.
