The romantic deception is officially getting animated: Fall in Love, You False Angels has revealed a new promotional video, its two lead voice actors and more of the creative team ahead of the anime’s 2027 release. The announcement came during Aniplex’s One Focus livestream on 12 September 2026, giving fans a fresh look at Coco Uzuki’s award-winning shojo manga adaptation.

What’s actually going on

Nao Ojika will voice Otogi Katsura, the first-year high schooler and class president admired by her classmates as a flawless “heartthrob angel”. That polished image is only half the story. According to Kodansha USA’s synopsis, Otogi is brash, assertive and sharp-tongued when the mask comes off. Taito Ban will play Toki Ninomae, her seemingly perfect vice-president, who is hiding a less angelic side of his own.

The pair’s secret partnership begins when Otogi confronts a group of boys at a train station and Toki enjoys seeing her unfiltered personality. He then reveals an unexpected side of himself, leaving the supposedly perfect pair to agree to keep their hidden natures private. In other words, this is less “love at first sight” and more “mutually assured emotional blackmail”, which is a considerably more entertaining foundation for a school romance.

MAPPA is producing the animation. The announced staff includes director Yasutomo Okamoto, character designer Mariko Oka, series script supervisor Yōhei Yamazaki, art director Takumi Hashimoto, colour key artist Kana Tanabe, compositing director of photography Shunsuke Taniguchi, editor Ayumu Takahashi and animation producer Yuriko Waki. Kensuke Ushio is producing the music, with Yūnosuke Senoo and Yuhki Kurihara credited as composers.

Uzuki launched the manga in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in April 2023. The seventh collected volume shipped in Japan on 12 June 2026, while the manga is currently on hiatus and scheduled to return in November. The series won the 2025 Kodansha Manga Award in the shojo category, and Kodansha USA publishes it in English.

Our opinion

This is a promising premise for an anime that understands the fun of a romance built on bad behaviour. Otogi and Toki are not being sold as spotless ideals; they are attractive, capable people with enough bite to make their supposedly perfect public personas feel like elaborate traps. MAPPA’s involvement, plus a team with clear shojo experience around the project, gives the adaptation a strong foundation. The sensible verdict is to keep this one firmly on the 2027 watchlist: the new promo makes the false angels look far more interesting than the genuine article.
