Fukufuku no Chizu anime short gets English subtitles on YouTube
Sunao Katabuchi’s Fukushima-set anime short Fukufuku no Chizu is now available with English subtitles on YouTube.
An anime short set around Fukushima is now easier for international viewers to watch, as Fukufuku no Chizu has received an English-subtitled YouTube release.
The short is directed and scripted by Sunao Katabuchi at CONTRAIL. Its story follows Sophie, a French philosopher visiting Fukushima for a friend’s wedding.
A Fukushima story with a wider audience
The production’s staff includes assistant director Chie Uratani, original character designer Fumiyo Kouno and composer kotringo. The Japanese version was posted in March, while the English-subtitled upload is the newer development.

Our opinion
Fukufuku no Chizu sounds like exactly the sort of small, human anime project that deserves a wider audience. An English-subtitled release costs nothing to try, and Katabuchi’s involvement makes this a worthwhile detour for anyone who likes animation with a sense of place rather than another interchangeable fantasy power ladder.
