Gachiakuta manga remains on hiatus while Kei Urana conducts research

Kodansha has not set a return date for Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta, whose latest chapter appeared on 5 August while the creator carries out research.

Gachiakuta is still waiting to return. The official X account for Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine commented on the ongoing hiatus on 8 September, saying the magazine will announce the manga’s return once a date has been decided.

The last new chapter appeared in the magazine’s combined 36th and 37th issue, which shipped on 5 August. The magazine’s listings for subsequent issues have continued to mark the series as on hiatus so that creator Kei Urana can conduct research.

Kodansha USA describes Gachiakuta as the story of Rudo, a boy from the slums of a floating town who is falsely accused of murder and thrown into the abyss with the rest of society’s rubbish. On the surface, he finds vicious monsters made from discarded waste and joins the Cleaners while seeking the truth behind his punishment.

Urana launched the manga in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022, with Hideyoshi Ando credited for the graffiti design. Kodansha published the 19th collected volume on 16 July. The anime adaptation began in Japan in July 2025, and a second season has already been announced.

For now, the update is a status check rather than a delay with a replacement date. Readers have confirmation that the hiatus continues and that research is the reason given, but no verified timetable for the next chapter has been provided.

Our opinion

A research hiatus is frustrating, particularly for a series as visually ambitious as Gachiakuta, but it is preferable to rushing Urana back with a weaker story or exhausted production schedule. The only sensible expectation is to wait for Kodansha’s return announcement and let the creator finish the work properly.
