K Manga has announced that Geekrown, the new manga from Magi creator Shinobu Ohtaka, will launch on the platform on October 26. The announcement was reported by Anime News Network, which attributes the news to K Manga's official account.1

The series is also scheduled to launch on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app on October 27. Its initial premise centres on a treasonous military officer caught in the middle of a succession crisis, giving Ohtaka's latest work a political and military-fantasy hook from the outset.1

Ohtaka is best known internationally for Magi, while her previous long-running series Orient concluded in 2024 after moving from Weekly Shōnen Magazine to Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine. Kodansha USA has continued releasing Orient in English, with its 20th volume released in April, according to ANN's background report.1

The staggered release dates mean readers will not have to wait long between the K Manga debut and the Magazine Pocket launch. K Manga's announcement gives the October 26 date for its service, while Magazine Pocket follows on October 27.1

Our opinion

Geekrown is an unusually easy manga launch to keep an eye on because its first tease promises a story built around institutional power rather than a simple hero-versus-villain setup. Ohtaka's name will do much of the initial work, but the succession-crisis premise is the more useful reason to watch the series: it suggests room for shifting loyalties, competing claims and the kind of political pressure that can make a fantasy setting feel bigger than its battles. The two-platform launch also gives international readers a clear first date through K Manga, while Magazine Pocket remains the follow-up home in Japan.
