Godzilla Minus Zero gets a monster-sized sandal collaboration
A Godzilla Minus Zero collaboration turns the monster’s rough hide into a pair of deliberately bumpy sandals launching in Japan on 3 November.
Godzilla Minus Zero is getting a suitably strange tie-in: a new pair of textured sandals inspired by the film’s monster and the Gorilla no Hadashi foot-care range will go on sale in Japan on 3 November, the same day the film opens there. According to Anime! Anime!, the collaboration is called “Godzilla VS Gorilla no Hadashi — Godzilla Attack” and will be sold through Don Quijote, ASBee and Green Box shops, with black and dark-grey versions covering roughly 25cm to 28cm. The product takes the range’s raised, bumpy insole and adds a surface intended to evoke Godzilla’s rough hide. The texture continues across the upper and outsole, where rounded bumps give the sandals a deliberately chunky look. A raised gorilla face sits at the centre of the insole, while the upper carries a three-dimensional Godzilla face.
The sandals use EVA for cushioning and elasticity, keeping them lighter and softer than their oversized appearance suggests. The collaboration arrives alongside the Japanese theatrical release of Godzilla Minus Zero, the follow-up to Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One. The official campaign site confirms a 3 November Japanese opening, with GKIDS bringing the film to North American cinemas from 6 November. The unusual footwear is less a replacement for film merchandise than a knowingly silly extension of the launch campaign — one that turns the monster’s rough texture into something fans can literally stand on.
Our opinion
This is exactly the sort of oddball tie-in that makes a film campaign memorable. The product combines a Godzilla face, a gorilla face and a violently bumpy footbed, then puts all three on a sandal. Whether that sounds appealing depends on your tolerance for novelty footwear, but as launch marketing it understands the assignment. The practical detail is that this is a Japan-first release, so international fans should not assume the same stock or retailers will be available locally.
For fans in Japan, the 3 November launch is the date to watch. For everyone else, the official film campaign remains the more useful way to follow the release until retailers confirm wider availability.
