The first TV anime adaptation of LIAR GAME is ready to turn your shelf into another arena of psychological warfare. Two Blu-ray BOX releases are now available to pre-order in Japan, with both sets scheduled to launch on 23 December 2026.

What’s actually going on: The Blu-ray release is being sold through AMNIBUS, with reservations open from 31 August to 27 October. BOX 1 contains episodes 1–13, while BOX 2 contains episodes 14–26. Each set costs ¥33,000 including tax (approximately US$206 / €178 / £152) and includes two Blu-ray discs.

Both releases include a special booklet and an anime-drawn three-sided sleeve. BOX 1 also includes the first-cour opening and ending sequences without credits, plus promotional videos. BOX 2 includes the equivalent second-cour music videos and promotional material. The special edition costs ¥4,840 before tax (approximately US$30 / €26 / £22).

Each pre-order comes with an AMNIBUS-exclusive F3 canvas board featuring the relevant Blu-ray BOX package illustration. The boards measure approximately 27.3 by 22 centimetres and are made from wood and synthetic fabric.

The anime is based on Shinobu Kaitani’s suspense manga, which follows an honest protagonist drawn into a dangerous contest of deception and strategy alongside a former genius con artist. The production is animated by Madhouse and focuses on the series’ central battle of human psychology, trust and betrayal.

The television anime began airing in Japan on 6 April 2026 and is streaming through services including Amazon Prime, ABEMA, U-NEXT and Anime Times. The Blu-ray announcement confirms the Japanese release and AMNIBUS ordering window; international home-video plans have not been stated.

Why you should care: a ¥33,000 box is not an impulse purchase, particularly when the full 26-episode series requires two sets costing ¥66,000 together. The package does offer substantial extras and exclusive artwork, but collectors will want to decide whether the physical edition’s booklets, sleeves and canvas boards justify the price before the pre-order window closes.

Our opinion

LIAR GAME is a natural fit for a collector’s Blu-ray shelf: the whole premise is about high stakes, complicated choices and somebody smiling while quietly ruining your afternoon. The price is steep, though, so this is one for committed fans rather than curious newcomers. If you are still deciding whether the anime is for you, sample it on a streaming service before wagering ¥66,000 (approximately US$412 / €356 / £304) on the complete set.
