Melty Blood: Type Lumina returns on 22 April 2027

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is getting a substantial new excuse to dust off your arcade stick: Aniplex has confirmed an April 22, 2027 release for its updated 2D fighter, alongside a trailer introducing White Len.

The announcement comes from Anime News Network’s report on Aniplex of America’s news. The returning fighter will launch across six platforms, with a familiar TYPE-MOON universe and a new character doing the promotional heavy lifting.

What's actually going on

According to Anime News Network, Melty Blood: Type Lumina launches on 22 April for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC via Steam. The trailer reveals White Len, illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi.

The game will use Japanese voiceover, while its text options cover Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French and Portuguese. That is a properly broad language spread for a fighting game whose cast and lore can otherwise feel like they were designed to test your wiki stamina.

TYPE-MOON and French Bread developed the original Melty Blood: Type Lumina, which launched in 2021. Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON are credited for the original work, while French Bread is developing this release and Aniplex is publishing it.

Why this matters for fighters

This is not a brand-new fighting game arriving to build an audience from scratch. Type Lumina already has a foundation, a recognisable roster and a community that knows its pressure strings from its panic buttons. The new release is instead betting that more characters and wider platform coverage can make the fighter feel fresh again.

The six-platform launch is the sensible bit. Bringing the game to both generations of PlayStation and Nintendo hardware, plus Xbox and Steam, gives more players a route in without forcing them to buy a specific box. The real test will be whether White Len adds meaningful variety rather than merely another face for the trailer thumbnail.

Our opinion

This is worth keeping on the fighting-game radar. A returning Melty Blood with a new character, eight text languages and a genuinely wide platform release has more going for it than a routine content drop. Do not treat White Len as proof that the whole package is brilliant yet, but if French Bread can make the new fighter feel more than a thin roster expansion, April 2027 could be a very good time to get back in the ring.
