MF Ghost Toyota 86 mini-car recreates two race cars

Hobby Japan is taking pre-orders for two 1/64 Toyota 86 GT models based on Kanata Katagiri's cars from MF Ghost, with release planned for May 2027.

MF Ghost (MFゴースト) is getting two new 1/64 Toyota 86 GT (ZN6) die-cast models based on Kanata Katagiri's (片桐夏向) race car, with both versions now available to pre-order from Hobby Japan. The models recreate the car as it appeared in the Odawara Pikes Peak and Lake Ashinoko GT races from the series.

Two race specifications

Hobby Japan's official product pages list both models at ¥4,290 each, with reservations open until 28 October 2026. The Odawara Pikes Peak version is based on the car from the first MFG race and carries its distinctive competition livery and markings. The Lake Ashinoko GT version represents the second race specification, including the gold-edged 86 decal and its dedicated wheel design.12

Each model is a painted die-cast display car at 1/64 scale. Hobby Japan says both versions include a clear case, a display base and a backing board designed with a battle scene from the anime. The product pages give the package dimensions as approximately 120mm wide, 60mm deep and 50mm high, and note that the doors, retractable headlights and bonnet do not open.12

Price and release window

The two models are listed for release from May 2027 onwards. They are being sold through Hobby Japan's direct store, Post Hobby and other model retailers, according to Anime! Anime!'s report. The retailer listings identify Hobby Japan as the manufacturer and carry the licence notice for the MF Ghost production committee.123

The two cars are a particularly neat fit for MF Ghost, a racing story built around recognisable road cars and specific course configurations. Rather than offering a generic version of Kanata's Toyota, Hobby Japan is splitting the release around two moments from the story, giving collectors a choice between the opening-race and Lake Ashinoko liveries.

Our opinion

This is the sort of tie-in that makes sense as a collectible: the two versions are meaningfully different, the cars are compact enough for a display shelf, and the clear cases mean buyers do not need to source their own protection. The May 2027 release is still a long way off, but the separate race specifications give fans a better reason to choose one model or collect both than a simple colour swap would.

The important caveat is that these are display models, not transformable or opening-feature toys. Buyers should also treat the listed May 2027 window as a planned release period rather than a guarantee. Hobby Japan's pages currently show the products as in stock for pre-order, with the reservation period ending on 28 October 2026.12
