Sins of Kujo film reveals more cast in new teaser
The live-action Sins of Kujo film adds six cast members ahead of its 8 January 2027 cinema release in Japan.
Sins of Kujo is taking its morally grey lawyer back to the big screen, and the new teaser has brought six more faces into the courtroom. The live-action film based on Shohei Manabe’s manga has expanded its cast ahead of a January 2027 opening in Japan.
According to Anime News Network, the film’s official website began streaming the teaser on 10 September. It reveals Kiyohiko Shibukawa as Takehito Mitarashi, Haru Kuroki as Kanako Kujō, Yui Narumi as Rui Ōta, Eita Okuno as Uji, Mutsuo Yoshioka as Karigane and Yū Tokui as Kajiya.
The character descriptions are hardly a collection of ordinary office colleagues. Mitarashi is the sworn brother of yakuza crime boss Kyōgoku. Kanako is Taiza Kujō’s ex-wife and a single mother, while Ōta is a dating-app swindler who hires the lawyer. Uji is a young yakuza lieutenant, Karigane works for the Fushimi group and Kajiya is a former member of a militant yakuza organisation.
A bigger case for Kujo
The film will open in Japan on 8 January 2027. Yuuya Yagira returns as Taiza Kujō, the lawyer at the centre of the story, and Hokuto Matsumura is back as Shinji Karasuma. Nobuhiro Doi returns to direct, working from a script by Nonji Nemoto, while the wider staff and cast from the live-action series are also returning.
The story follows a lawyer who defends society’s worst offenders and operates in the uncomfortable space between justice and wickedness. Netflix’s description frames Kujō as a defender of thugs and ex-convicts whose unconventional methods leave the more conventionally minded Karasuma questioning what justice is supposed to look like when every clean answer has already left the building.
The teaser is being promoted through the official TOHO MOVIE channel, and its thumbnail supplies the rights-clear hero used here. The official film website and Comic Natalie are also listed as sources for the casting and release details.
Our opinion
A lawyer who defends villains, a yakuza-heavy supporting cast and a film willing to treat morality as a grubby negotiation is a much stronger hook than another clean-cut legal drama. The January date is still a Japan-only theatrical detail, but the returning leads and expanded ensemble suggest this is being built as a proper continuation rather than a disposable bonus chapter. Keep Sins of Kujo on the watchlist — preferably from a safe distance from its clients.
