Star Detective Precure! Movie becomes top standalone Precure film
Star Detective Precure! The Movie has earned 1.24 billion yen in Japan, making it the biggest standalone Precure film after its first month.
Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and a Secret Pair has become the biggest standalone film in the Precure franchise after taking 1.24 billion yen (about £6.4 million) from 977,000 admissions in its first month in Japanese cinemas, according to Anime.com. 1
The film opened on 18 September and reached the billion-yen mark on its 17th day. That is the fastest any Precure film has crossed the milestone, while its first three days brought in 445.58 million yen from 357,612 admissions. The figures were announced by the film's official X account, as reported by Anime.com. 1
A new standalone record
The result puts The Mysterious Garden and a Secret Pair ahead of every other standalone Precure movie at the Japanese box office. It does not, however, give the film the franchise's overall record: the 2023 crossover Precure All Stars Movie F remains on top with 1.54 billion yen from 1.23 million admissions. 1
The new film is tied to the 2026 Star Detective Precure! television series, which follows Anna Akechi and Mikuru Kobayashi. Toei Animation produced the movie, which also introduced new fairy characters in the stills accompanying the box-office announcement. 1
An official English-subtitled trailer from Toei Animation US shows the central Precure characters alongside those fairy companions, offering a clearer look at the film's colourful mystery setting. 2
Our opinion
This is a meaningful result because it separates the film from the boost that crossover events naturally receive. Precure All Stars Movie F still has the bigger overall total, but the new record for a standalone entry suggests Star Detective Precure! has built a strong audience on its own terms. The faster billion-yen run is just as notable as the final figure: audiences did not merely keep the film afloat over several weeks, they arrived quickly enough to set a new pace for the series.
For now, the 1.24 billion yen figure is the film's first-month total in Japan, not its final lifetime gross. With the movie still playing, its next milestone will be whether it can close the gap on the wider franchise record without the advantage of an all-star crossover cast.
