Tetsuryo! gets a pre-broadcast trailer and a streaming plan

The Tomytec spin-off's final trailer leads with Asaka's opening theme, and d Anime Store gets the fastest stream on 8 October.

The railway girls are almost at the platform. A pre-broadcast trailer published on 20 September leads with the show's opening song, and d Anime Store has been confirmed as the fastest place to watch it when the series begins on 8 October at 24:00 JST on TOKYO MX and BS Fuji. The rest of the rollout landed with it.

When and where it runs

NBC Nagasaki picks the show up on 10 October, and AT-X follows on 11 October with repeat showings on Thursday mornings and Sunday mornings. Streaming splits the same way. d Anime Store gets episodes from 8 October at 25:00 JST, with everything else starting on 11 October: ABEMA, Bandai Channel, DMM TV, FOD, Hulu, Lemino, milplus, Nico Nico, Prime Video, TELASA and U-NEXT. The most recent episodes are also free for a limited window on ABEMA, Nico Nico Live, R Channel, TVer and U-NEXT.

Asaka sings the opening, GO! GO! RAILWAY!!, and the four leads take the ending as a group: Tachibana Mei, Shoji Mao, Fukushima Haruna and Tsukishiro Hika perform Watashi Miraisen as the Tetsuryo-kai. The same four voice the railway-travel club that pulls new student Misaki into a year of train journeys, in a cast that runs past twenty names, with Asami Seto, Ayaka Ohashi, Yurika Kubo, Misaki Kuno and Kana Ichinose among the railway daughters.

Twenty years of railway daughters

The show is built on Tomytec's Tetsudo Musume, a character project that pairs anime girls with real railway operators and turns 20 this year. Tomytec owns the original concept, Misuzu Hoshino directs, Aya Satsuki handles series composition, Hisanori Hashimoto designs the characters, Konosuke Takao writes the music and East Fish Studio animates. It is a Japan-first production in every sense: there is no western broadcast or streaming licence attached yet, so every date above belongs to the domestic rollout.

Our opinion

Railway-girl anime is a small, stubborn genre that keeps working because it has an actual audience: people who like trains and people who like the idea of a trip, which is most of us on a bad week. Putting the fastest stream on d Anime Store rather than a global platform tells you where the show expects its viewers to be, and the free catch-up windows on ABEMA and TVer suggest a production that would rather be discovered than gatekept. The risk is that a 20th-anniversary brand project can coast on its roster of characters. A trailer that leads with its theme song rather than a plot suggests the team knows the hook here is the mood, not the mystery.
