The Record of a Fallen Vampire returns with a new manga series after 19 years

Kyo Shirodaira and Yuri Kimura will launch Vampire Jūjikai: Inu ni wa Inu no Uta, a new series set in The Record of a Fallen Vampire world, in Shonen Gangan on 9 October.

The vampire king is getting another chapter, because apparently being sealed away for thousands of years is no excuse for taking a proper break. Square Enix’s Shonen Gangan announced that The Record of a Fallen Vampire will receive a new series after 19 years.

The new manga is titled Vampire Jūjikai: Inu ni wa Inu no Uta, translated by Anime News Network as The Record of a Fallen Vampire: A Dog’s Song for Dogs. Kyo Shirodaira is returning as creator, with Yuri Kimura, and the series is scheduled to begin in the magazine’s next issue on 9 October.

The magazine is also teasing an “important announcement” about the series in that issue. No further details about the new story, its characters or its eventual English release have been announced in the verified report, so readers should treat the October launch as the firm news rather than filling the gaps with wishful vampire mathematics.

The original manga launched in Shonen Gangan in December 2003 and concluded after Square Enix shipped its ninth compiled volume in April 2007. The English edition was published by VIZ Media, while Manga UP! Global currently describes the story digitally as the struggle of Vampire King Akabara “Red Rose” Strauss to find his sealed queen while facing the Black Swan.

Our opinion

A long-dormant manga returning with its original creative team is exactly the sort of announcement that deserves attention, especially when the publisher is already hinting at more news. The sensible move is to watch the 9 October launch and wait for details before assuming this is a full sequel, a side story or something considerably stranger.
