Orb creator Uoto announces two new manga series
Uoto will launch Hallucination Meat in Weekly Big Comic Spirits and co-create Test Taker/Cheaters with Kyō Yoneshiro for Monthly Afternoon.
Uoto, the creator of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth and 100 Meters, has announced two new manga projects. One will be a solo series, while the other pairs Uoto with artist Kyō Yoneshiro for a story that already has a title designed to sound like trouble in an examination hall.
Hallucination Meat will run in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits. Its launch date has not been set, although Uoto said they expect it to begin this year. The announcement was teased with a diagram of a methane molecule, which is either a clue or an admirably committed way to make everyone search for the chemistry textbook.
The second project is Test Taker/Cheaters, with Uoto credited as story writer and Yoneshiro as artist. It will launch in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon, also without a confirmed start date; Uoto expects it to begin at the start of next year. A pencil-and-handgun image was used to tease that announcement.
Uoto launched Orb: On the Movements of the Earth in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in September 2020 and ended it in April 2022. Shogakukan published the eighth and final collected volume in June 2022, while Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the series in English. The manga later inspired a 25-episode anime adaptation.
Uoto’s other recent work includes 100 Meters, which inspired an anime film, and Dr. Muscle Beetle, which ended in 2025. The two new series therefore mark a sizeable return to the manga spotlight, but their premises, release dates and English licensing plans remain unannounced.
Our opinion
Two new series from Uoto is a strong reason to pay attention, even before the creator explains what either project is actually about. The smart expectation is curiosity rather than speculation: Hallucination Meat arrives first if Uoto’s estimate holds, while Test Taker/Cheaters gives readers a fresh collaboration to watch next year.
