Wound & Bandage anime adds Shoya Ishige to cast

Wound & Bandage adds Shoya Ishige as Ginsuke Hatobane and reveals a second key visual ahead of its January 2027 premiere.

Wound & Bandage anime teaser visual featuring Ginsuke Hatobane and the January 2027 premiere date

Wound & Bandage has added Shoya Ishige to its cast as Ginsuke Hatobane, while the TV anime has unveiled a second key visual and teaser PV. The series is scheduled to begin airing and streaming on 9 January 2027. 1

The new cast announcement

Ishige joins Hisako Kanemoto as Riyo Washizu and Chikahiro Kobayashi as Go Kiritani. Wound & Bandage is based on Umihoshi Nanai’s manga, which is serialised on Kodansha’s Comic Days platform. 12

The production lists Miyuki Ishida as director, Susumu Yamakawa on series composition and Natsuki Oyama as character designer, with J.C.STAFF handling animation production. The newly revealed visual is themed around “Fetish”, matching the manga’s deliberately unconventional romantic-comedy premise. 1

The story follows Riyo, the daughter of a powerful yakuza boss, and Kiritani, the underboss tasked with looking after her. Kiritani initially sees Riyo as quiet and harmless, but discovers that she has an unusual interest in the contrast between strength and weakness. Their increasingly eccentric relationship forms the centre of the series. 12

What the visual tells us

The teaser visual puts Ginsuke Hatobane front and centre, surrounded by manga-style panels and the series’ January 2027 premiere date. It is a useful reminder that this adaptation is leaning into its sharper, more adult comic tone rather than presenting itself as a conventional school romance.

The second teaser PV should give viewers a better sense of how J.C.STAFF is translating that tone into motion. The production has not yet announced a wider international streaming rollout, so the January date is best treated as the confirmed Japanese broadcast and streaming start rather than a global availability promise.

Our opinion

The new casting is a modest update, but the visual gives Wound & Bandage a clearer identity. Ishige’s addition matters because Ginsuke expands the ensemble beyond the central pairing, while the visual’s collage of expressive faces and manga panels suggests the adaptation is comfortable with the source material’s oddball energy. The key question now is whether the teaser PV can make that premise feel character-driven rather than merely provocative. For now, the production has done enough to stand out from the crowded January 2027 season without pretending that a release date is the same thing as a confirmed worldwide launch.
