The Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 3 anime has added Kaede Hondo to its cast as Charlotte, while the official website has revealed a new climax promotional video.
The current series, titled Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 3: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, follows the ongoing television adaptation of Miya Kazuki’s light novels. It premiered in April and is airing across two consecutive cours.
Hondo joins a cast that includes Yuka Iguchi as Rozemyne and Show Hayami as Ferdinand. The production has also introduced new staff for this part, with Yoshiaki Iwasaki directing at Wit Studio.
Crunchyroll is streaming the anime with English subtitles and an English dub. The second cour features a new ending theme performed by adieu, while Kana Nishino performs the opening theme “Power of Love”.
The wider Ascendance of a Bookworm franchise remains active across anime, light novels and manga. J-Novel Club publishes the novels and several manga adaptations in English.
Our opinion
A new climax video is exactly the sort of nudge this long-running adaptation needs: enough fresh material to remind viewers where the story is heading without pretending Charlotte’s casting is a revolution. Kaede Hondo is a strong addition to an already stacked ensemble.
