Burger King has teased a new set of Dragon Ball Super figures for the United States, promising fans that their next power-up is closer than they think. The reveal shows six familiar faces from the anime, but the fast-food chain is keeping the most important details firmly behind the counter.

What’s actually going on: according to Anime News Network, Burger King announced the partnership on 28 August through its social channels. The teaser features six figures: Son Goku, Super Saiyan Blue Son Goku, Vegeta, Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, Beerus and Piccolo. Burger King’s caption reads: “Your next power-up is closer than you think…”

That is the full announcement for now. Burger King has not revealed when the figures will be available, how customers will get them, whether they will be tied to meals or a separate promotion, or how much the collection will cost. The US-focused wording also means there is no confirmed international rollout.

The timing is a sensible fit for a collectable promotion. Dragon Ball Super has a recognisable roster that works well as a set, from Goku’s standard form and Super Saiyan Blue variant to Beerus and Piccolo. The two Vegeta figures also ensure the eternal rivalry survives its journey from the screen to the kids’ meal display.

For context, Dragon Ball Super followed Dragon Ball Z and began with the stories introduced in the films Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’. The anime later expanded into new stories, while the franchise continued with films including Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Our opinion

A six-figure Dragon Ball Super promotion could be a fun excuse for collectors to visit Burger King, but right now it is a teaser rather than an offer. Until the chain reveals the launch date, purchase conditions and whether the figures are actually obtainable without ordering enough burgers to summon Shenron, keep your wallet in its holster.
