The Vermilion Mask debuts with a 3.1% TV rating
The Vermilion Mask opened with a 3.1% Kanto-region household rating, while Dragon Ball Super: Beerus began with 2.8%.
The Vermilion Mask opened its Japanese television run with a reported 3.1% household rating in the Kanto region, according to the latest weekly figures published by Anime News Network. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus began its own run with 2.8%.1
The latest anime ratings
The Vermilion Mask’s debut episode aired on Nippon Television on Saturday, October 10 at 5:30 p.m. and recorded an average household rating of 3.1% in the Kanto region. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus followed on Fuji TV on Sunday, October 11 at 11:15 p.m., with a 2.8% rating.1
The wider table was led by Sazae-san at 7.3%, followed by Detective Conan at 5.2% and Chibi Maruko-chan at 5.1%. The Apothecary Diaries season 3 placed fourth with 3.6%, ahead of The Vermilion Mask’s debut.1
A marathon re-airing of the second season of the live-action Solitary Gourmet series was listed separately after airing on TV Tokyo on Monday, October 5. It recorded a 4.5% household rating, although it is not part of the animated programme rankings themselves.1
What the figures measure
The figures are estimates of the percentage of households in Japan’s Kanto region watching each programme. They come from a survey-based measurement supplied by Video Research, and do not include recordings watched later.1
That regional and methodological context matters. A 3.1% debut is useful as a snapshot of the broadcast audience in one market, but it is not a worldwide viewership figure and cannot be compared directly with streaming totals. It also captures the first broadcast episode rather than the series’ eventual performance across its full run.
The result nevertheless places The Vermilion Mask ahead of several established or returning titles in the same week, including Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s full-series rebroadcast at 2.5%. Its next figures should show whether the debut audience holds after the launch window.1

Our opinion
Weekly ratings are most useful when treated as a trend rather than a verdict. The Vermilion Mask’s 3.1% debut gives it a visible starting point, but one broadcast does not establish whether the show has become a breakout hit. The more interesting question is whether its audience remains competitive once the novelty of the premiere has passed and streaming viewers are considered alongside television households.
For now, the result is a respectable opening in a crowded autumn schedule, with The Apothecary Diaries season 3 setting a higher mark among the newer animated entries in this table.
