Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 reveals new characters in trailer
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 introduces more of its new Night City crew before its 20 October Netflix premiere.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has revealed a new poster visual and an official trailer ahead of its 20 October 2026 release on Netflix. The new series is a standalone 10-episode story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, with Studio TRIGGER returning to animate it. 1
A new crew in Night City
The follow-up is directed by Kai Ikarashi, who worked on the original series, with Ichigo Kanno as character designer and Masahiko Otsuka handling the screenplay. Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer. 1
The newly highlighted cast includes Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner living in the shadow of his former reputation; D, a Snake Nation netrunner pursuing revenge; Roman Carax, a young cinephile documenting the people around him; and Talia Yang, a hardened Maelstrom-connected character obsessed with her gang’s chrome. 1

Netflix Anime’s official trailer introduces the returning neon-noir setting and the new characters at the centre of the second story. 2 Netflix will stream the series exclusively, while CD PROJEKT RED and Studio TRIGGER remain attached to the wider Cyberpunk: Edgerunners project. 3
The new series follows the 2022 anime’s format as a self-contained story rather than continuing the original protagonist’s journey. It is also being supported by a new poster visual and a growing set of character reveals ahead of the October premiere.
Our opinion
The strongest choice here is the decision to make Edgerunners 2 a new story with a new crew. Returning to Night City without simply repeating David’s arc gives TRIGGER room to explore a different kind of tragedy, while the mix of veteran edgerunner, revenge-driven netrunner and obsessive documentarian hints at a broader view of the city. The October release is close enough that this trailer should be read as a final character-and-tone push, not an early promise.
