Death Stranding Isolations anime reveals teaser and 2027 Disney+ window

Kojima Productions has revealed a teaser, new staff and a 2027 Disney+ window for its Death Stranding animated series.

Death Stranding Isolations is the next expansion of Hideo Kojima’s bleak, beautifully strange world. Kojima Productions has released a teaser for the animated series, introduced its key creative staff and confirmed a 2027 debut on Disney+ and other Disney services. 1

The series is set after the events of the Death Stranding, with its story following a young girl in a fractured North America. The wider setting remains tied to the Chiral Network and the attempt to reconnect a continent after the catastrophe that reshaped it. The announcement does not give the show a precise launch date or a complete territory list, so “2027” is the useful limit of what has been confirmed.

The teaser presents a new cast of characters and a visual direction that keeps the franchise’s mixture of lonely landscapes, advanced equipment and unsettling mystery. Its title artwork places a blonde young woman and another figure beside a futuristic motorbike, with the barren landscape doing plenty of the world-building before anyone has said a word. The series should not be confused with the separately announced Death Stranding animated film project or the live-action film adaptation.

The creative team

Takayuki Sano is directing the series at E&H production, with Tow Ubukata overseeing and writing the scripts. Sayaka Koiso is the character designer, while Ilya Kuvshinov is providing the original character designs. Kojima is attached as executive producer, and Kojima Productions is producing the project. 12

The wider staff includes Yann Le Gall as colour script and art director, Ami Kutsuna as colour designer, Tomohiko Kan leading the 3D department, Jumi Lee as compositing director, Keisuke Yanagi as editor and Shūhei Abe as sound director. Those credits point to a production that is taking the visual and technical identity of Death Stranding seriously rather than treating the property as a simple extension of the game’s cutscenes.

Kojima Productions first announced the animated project as part of the expanding Death Stranding screen universe. This update is more substantial: it provides a teaser, a clearer creative line-up and the 2027 streaming window, while still leaving the exact premiere date and episode details open. 2

Our opinion

Death Stranding Isolations has an unusually strong starting point because it does not need to explain why its world is worth watching. The game’s landscapes, rules and strange emotional vocabulary already give the anime a distinctive foundation. The important question is whether the series can turn that atmosphere into a story with its own momentum, rather than simply recreating the game’s most recognisable imagery.

The teaser’s emphasis on a new young protagonist is encouraging. It gives the adaptation room to explore the setting without making Sam Porter Bridges the centre of every mystery, and the announced staff suggests that Kojima Productions is building a proper animated production rather than outsourcing the property’s identity. There is still a long wait before 2027, and the lack of a release date means expectations should stay measured, but this first look makes the project feel like a genuine new chapter for Death Stranding rather than a promotional footnote.
