The Final-Boss Prince anime confirms a January 2027 debut
The reincarnation fantasy has its first promotional video, a first key visual and two more cast members, and it will start broadcasting in January 2027.
The television anime of The Final-Boss Prince is Somehow Obsessed with the Chubby Villainess: Reincarnated Me will begin broadcasting in January 2027. The production committee confirmed the window on 30 September and released the series' first promotional video and first key visual with it.
What the first video shows
The trailer introduces two more cast members. Shunichi Toki voices Louis, the kingdom's first prince, and Fuka Izumi voices Adel, Celine's younger sister. Both credits are new. The key visual that arrived with the video puts Celine in the centre with the characters who orbit her, which is the joke the title is built on.
What the story is
The source material is a serialised novel written by Kotoko with artwork by Kanami Hanamiya. Its protagonist wakes up as Celine, the villainess of a popular novel — and, less usually for the genre, the elder sister of that novel's heroine. She resolves to keep her head down and enjoy a quiet life, a project that mostly takes the form of dieting, and then finds a boy unconscious in the woods.
The anime is credited to Minto Studio and weavin, with the series' production committee named as the rights holder.
When it airs
January 2027 is the window the committee has given. No exact date, broadcaster or streaming line-up has been published, and the announcement says further details will follow.
Our opinion
Reincarnating as the villainess has become the default frame for a certain kind of light novel adaptation, so the question here is not the premise but what the show does with the inversion. Making Celine the heroine's elder sister rather than her rival removes the usual spite from the arrangement: she has no score to settle, only a plan to survive quietly, and the first video's comedy comes from how badly that plan holds.
The timing is the harder problem. January 2027 is already carrying Bless, Dengeki Daisy and Mera x Death for the same audience, so the series will have to distinguish itself on character rather than on format. A crowded slot is survivable, but not with a hook that four other shows are also offering.
