FX Fighter Kurumi-chan anime reveals 1 October debut and opening theme
FX Fighter Kurumi-chan will premiere in Japan on 1 October, with Aina Suzuki voicing Kurumi and performing the opening and ending themes.
The charts are about to get dangerously dramatic. FX Fighter Kurumi-chan will debut on Japanese television on 1 October, with a new promotional video introducing a cast of characters who are treating the foreign-exchange market like a battlefield — which, financially speaking, may not be the worst analogy.
What’s actually going on: Kadokawa has confirmed the anime’s 1 October premiere and revealed that Aina Suzuki, who voices central character Kurumi Fukuga, will perform the opening theme “FX Senshi Kurumi-chan”. Suzuki will also perform the ending theme “$・¥・€”.
The anime will air on AT-X from 9:30 p.m. on 1 October and on Tokyo MX from 10:30 p.m., followed later that evening by BS11 and Kansai TV. In Japan, d Anime Store will stream the series first, ahead of other services.
Suzuki is joined by Asami Seto as Mochiko Kogane, Ayasa Itō as Mebuki Yamashi, Miho Okasaki as Yasuko Takane and Yūki Ogawa as another cast member. Yūki Ogawa directs at Passione, Kenta Ihara writes and oversees the series scripts, Kazuyuki Ueda designs the characters and Takurō Iga composes the music.
Additional staff includes assistant director Shintarō Matsushima, sub-character designers Yūma Yokomatsu and Saki Fujita, art director Takaya Kobayashi, colour designer Tomoko Koyama, director of photography Takashi Nakamichi, editor Ayako Tan, sound director Takatoshi Hamano and sound-effects designer Katsuhiro Nakajima.
The story follows Kurumi, a college student who enters the foreign-exchange market to recover the 20 million yen her late mother lost. Kurumi assumes getting the money back will be easy, but quickly discovers a world of unrealised losses, forced sell-offs and heart rates that refuse to behave. She is joined by other “FX fighters” as the market swings between apparent fortune and financial disaster.
Why you should care: foreign-exchange trading is hardly the usual setup for a cute character comedy. The series appears to be leaning into that contradiction, presenting charts, risk and catastrophic decision-making with the heightened energy of a battle anime. It may offer a playful introduction to financial terminology, but the premise is still fictional entertainment — not a suggestion that recovering a family loss through leveraged trading is a sensible life plan.
Demunyan and Daisuki Tansan launched the manga in Kadokawa’s Comic Flapper magazine in February 2021. Kadokawa released the ninth volume in January, with the 10th volume scheduled for 18 September.
Our opinion
An anime about foreign-exchange trading was always going to be either unexpectedly brilliant or a stress headache with theme music. FX Fighter Kurumi-chan looks firmly committed to the chaos, and Aina Suzuki’s dual role as star and theme-song performer gives the launch a clear focal point. Just remember: if an episode makes you want to open a trading account, watch another episode instead.
