GeGeGe no Kitaro collaboration brings themed events to Chofu PARCO

GeGeGe no Parco will bring a yokai hunt, character-themed food, limited goods and pop-up shops to Chofu PARCO from 18 November.

GeGeGe no Kitaro (ゲゲゲの鬼太郎) is heading to Chofu PARCO in a collaboration timed to GeGeGe Festival 2026, with a themed stamp rally, photo booth, limited food, merchandise and pop-up shops. The event runs from 18 to 30 November in Chofu, Tokyo, alongside the wider festival honouring manga creator Shigeru Mizuki.

What is happening

The collaboration, titled GeGeGe no Parco, uses a “beware of yokai sightings” concept. Visitors will be invited to follow a map around the shopping centre, find hidden yokai and collect five characters to complete a keyword. Anyone who finishes the rally can receive a GeGeGe no Parco sticker while supplies last. A photo booth will also let visitors take pictures alongside the Kitaro family.

The promotion adds several purchase-linked gifts. Customers who spend at least ¥8,800 in participating shops can receive an original hand towel, with a daily limit of 200. Spending ¥1,500 at selected restaurants and cafés earns a chance to receive one of five random magnets, again while stocks last. Children of primary-school age and younger can also collect an original Kitaro mask, with 200 available each day.

Food is part of the attraction rather than a side note. Participating restaurants and cafés will offer eight original dishes inspired by characters including Kitaro and Medama Oyaji. The event will also sell limited sweets, clothing and general goods, giving visitors reasons to browse beyond the timed activities.

Three temporary shops are planned: the Kitaro Shoten pop-up focused on Mizuki manga and Kitaro goods, a Toei Animation shop linked to GeGeGe Festival 2026, and a Village Vanguard pop-up. Some shops will run additional promotions tied to the festival.

GeGeGe Festival 2026 itself runs from 18 to 30 November and includes screenings of Mizuki-related anime, talks with voice actors and staff, and events around Chofu’s identity as “the town where Mizuki manga was born”. The festival is held around 30 November, the anniversary of Mizuki’s death, and celebrates the places and work associated with the creator.

Our opinion

This is a stronger collaboration than a simple merch counter because the activities give visitors a reason to explore the building. The rally, food menu and photo booth each suit a different kind of fan, while the limited shops make the event useful for collectors. The daily caps on gifts mean anyone travelling to Chofu should treat the extras as first-come, first-served bonuses rather than guaranteed purchases. For fans already planning to attend GeGeGe Festival 2026, the PARCO tie-in looks like a neatly concentrated way to turn a day of screenings and talks into a wider Kitaro-themed outing.

The event is organised by Chofu PARCO, with joint planning and design by 3KG. Full details are available through the event’s special website.
