ghost - end of night adds three cast members ahead of 2027 film
Kenjiro Tsuda, Hiroki Yasumoto and Hiroshi Kamiya join Shingo Natsume’s Madhouse film ahead of its February 2027 release.
ghost - end of night (ghost/夜の果て) will add three more cast members before its planned Japanese cinema release on 11 February 2027. Kenjiro Tsuda, Hiroki Yasumoto and Hiroshi Kamiya join director Shingo Natsume’s original feature-length anime, with the new announcement also confirming a limited collaboration movie ticket tied to Japanese band Hitsujibungaku. 1
Tsuda will voice Moby Dick, the creator of the virtual-reality network Altverse who takes an interest in protagonist Nike. Yasumoto plays Karate, a manager at the observatory where Mass’s childhood friends work, while Kamiya voices Ito, a mental coach who helps people struggling with their lives. The three performers have also supplied comments about the film’s themes and production. 1
Natsume, known for directing Sonny Boy, One-Punch Man and ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., is making his first original feature film. Madhouse is handling animation, with the story set in a future where work is no longer necessary and people are sorted at 18 according to whether the world needs them. Nike, who is selected at 15, continues searching for something genuine while resisting the society around her. 2
A film built around “ghosts”
The film’s “ghost” is described as the real feeling that exists inside everyone but cannot easily be put into words. Nike’s encounter with Mass, a young man carrying profound loss, sits at the centre of that idea. The official production material presents the film as a drama about despair, conflict and an eventual decision that nobody around Nike can predict. 2
The new cast announcement also adds a music tie-in. Hitsujibungaku, who are contributing the theme and insert songs, will have a limited collaboration movie ticket sold first at the band’s Tokyo tour-final concerts on 10 and 11 November. The first run is limited to 2,000 cards, with wider online sales still only a possibility rather than a confirmed release plan. 1
The official teaser presents Nike against the film’s dark, star-filled visual language and confirms the 11 February 2027 date. It comes from the Madhouse-linked promotional channel and is available as an embedded trailer below. 3
Our opinion
The casting news is useful because it expands the film’s social world without giving away the central mystery. Tsuda’s Moby Dick is linked to the technology shaping the setting, while Yasumoto and Kamiya’s characters connect the story to the observatory and its troubled community. That makes the film sound less like a conventional coming-of-age mystery and more like an ensemble drama about what people owe one another in a world that claims to have removed the need for work.
