Grotesqqque anime film spotlights its “Yoroshiku★Girl” segment in new trailer

Grotesqqque is getting stranger by the minute, which is exactly what you want from a film with that title. A new trailer has spotlighted the “Yoroshiku★Girl” segment of Atsushi Nishigori’s original anime omnibus, ahead of its Japanese cinema release this November.

The trailer arrived during the Aniplex One Focus livestream and gives viewers another look at a film that is deliberately refusing to be one neat, easily labelled thing.

What's actually going on

Grotesqqque will open in Japanese cinemas on 6 November 2026. The film was previously titled Grotesque, and it is being presented as an omnibus of three stories with different worlds and moods: “A(E)liens”, “Yoroshiku★Girl” and “Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque”.

The newly released trailer focuses on “Yoroshiku★Girl”, also known as “4649 Girl”. The title is a Japanese wordplay joke: 4649 can be read as “yoroshiku”, a phrase commonly used when asking someone to treat you well or when beginning a relationship. It is a very on-brand name for a project that seems determined to make every translation come with a footnote.

Nishigori is credited with the original concept, direction, screenplay and character designs. CloverWorks is handling the animation through JOEN, the production company formed by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio and Shueisha. The reported cast includes Kana Ichinose, Gen Hoshino, Akio Ōtsuka, Sara Minami, Saori Hayami, Maaya Uchida, Chika Anzai, Miyu Tomita, Rumi Ōkubo and Rie Kugimiya.

The film has already had its world premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, but the 6 November date currently applies to Japan. No UK, US or wider international cinema release has been announced in the sources checked.

Why you should care

Original anime films are increasingly becoming the place where established creators can take a proper swing rather than assemble another committee-approved franchise extension. Grotesqqque sounds like a particularly ambitious swing: three stories, three flavours and a production team with serious animation pedigree.

Our opinion

The title may look like a typo, but the project itself looks refreshingly deliberate. A three-part anime film from Nishigori and CloverWorks is worth watching, even if the first trailer leaves international viewers staring at the calendar and wondering when the rest of the world gets a date. Put it on the radar — just do not assume that a Japanese cinema opening is automatically a global release.
