Happy Kanako's Killer Life anime announced for April 2027
TOHO animation has announced an April 2027 TV anime for the contract-killer workplace comedy manga.
Happy Kanako's Killer Life is being adapted into a television anime that will begin broadcasting in April 2027. TOHO animation announced the adaptation on Saturday, with the official website also publishing a teaser visual and launch information.12
The series follows Kanako Nishino, an exhausted office worker who leaves a black company and accidentally takes a job at an agency for contract killers. The official site presents the premise as a darkly comic workplace switch: the new job offers unusually generous conditions, including a starting salary of 600,000 yen, weekends and public holidays off, and full benefits.2
Staff and cast
Shinji Takamatsu is directing the anime, overseeing the scripts and working with Drive, the studio handling animation production. Yoshiyuki Okubo is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director.12
The announced cast includes Hana Tamegai as Kanako Nishino, Ryota Suzuki as Sakurai and Junichi Suwabe as the president of the assassin agency. The official visual used for this article shows Kanako seated in the centre while a ring of armed figures points weapons towards her, reflecting the series' deliberately absurd contrast between office-life language and contract-killer danger.2
A manga with a growing screen presence
Toshiya Wakabayashi's manga began as a four-panel web comic before moving to Seikaisha's Twi4 service. Seikaisha published its ninth collected volume in May, while Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English editions.1 The property has already received a live-action adaptation, with a second season debuting on DMM TV in September.1
The anime's April 2027 broadcast window is confirmed, but the announcement does not yet provide a more specific premiere date or streaming information. The official website lists teaser news and a teaser promotional video alongside the adaptation announcement.2
Our opinion
The premise has a clean hook: replace the usual miserable office job with an improbably wholesome assassin workplace. That gives the anime a distinctive comic identity before it even reaches its action scenes. With Takamatsu directing and Drive producing, the early staff announcement is enough to make this one worth watching as more footage and a precise release date arrive.
