Kagurabachi anime casts Yūichi Nakamura as Soshiro Azami

CyberAgent has cast Yūichi Nakamura as Soshiro Azami in the Kagurabachi anime, revealing the Kamunabi sorcerer in a new character trailer as the series lines up an April 2027 premiere.

CyberAgent has confirmed that Yūichi Nakamura is joining the cast of the Kagurabachi television anime as Soshiro Azami, a sorcerer affiliated with the Kamunabi. The reveal arrived on 2 October 2026 in a character trailer and a fresh character visual published on the anime's official channels.

A Kamunabi sorcerer enters the frame

Azami is the latest name pulled from Takeru Hokazono's manga to be attached to a voice. The production team issued the announcement alongside a dedicated character trailer that introduces the role, giving the series another named player ahead of its debut.

Nakamura is one of the most familiar voices in anime and has spent two decades in leading and supporting roles across television and film. Casting him for a supporting sorcerer in a Shonen Jump adaptation is a statement of intent about the depth of the production rather than its headline draw.

What the trailer shows

The character trailer presents Azami on a graphic card in the anime's deep blue house style, with his name set large behind him and his voice credit on screen. It is the same format CyberAgent has used to introduce the rest of the announced cast, and it doubles as the first clear look at Azami's design in motion.

April 2027, and a world tour before it

Kagurabachi is set to premiere in April 2027 and will stream worldwide that month, excluding Japan, Mainland China, North Korea and South Korea. Before then, a world tour has been taking the first 20 minutes of episode one to audiences, running from Anime Expo in Los Angeles and Japan Expo Paris to ANImagic in Mannheim and Anime NYC.

Tetsuya Takeuchi directs at Cypic, with Keigo Sasaki designing the characters. Shochiku and CyberAgent sit on the production committee. The manga launched in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023, and Shueisha published the twelfth collected volume on 4 September 2026.

Viz Media and Shueisha's MANGA Plus service publish the series in English, with Viz's eighth print volume arriving on 4 August 2026. The manga has passed four million copies in circulation and topped the print category at the 2024 Next Manga Awards.

Our opinion

Character trailers have become the anime industry's favourite way to keep a pre-launch campaign fed without showing anything it cannot walk back, and Kagurabachi is running that playbook with unusual discipline. The clever part is not the format but the sequencing: by naming the supporting cast one card at a time through 2026, CyberAgent builds a cast list that feels populated long before episode one airs, which suits a story whose appeal rests on its ensemble of sorcerers rather than a single hero. Nakamura is exactly the calibre of hire that turns a supporting role into a talking point, and putting him behind Azami suggests the Kamunabi will carry real weight in the adaptation. The open question is whether all this scaffolding leaves enough unseen for the April 2027 premiere to still land, because a campaign this generous with reveals can easily spoil its own arrival.
