Kaiju No. 8 film will complete the anime story in 2027
The Kaiju No. 8 anime will end with a feature film in 2027, but a release date and international schedule have not been announced.
The Kaiju No. 8 anime will conclude with a feature film in 2027, according to an announcement reported by Anime! Anime! following the franchise’s October 24 event in Tachikawa.1
The film is being presented as the anime’s final chapter. The announcement was accompanied by a super teaser visual showing a giant unidentified kaiju amid a collapsed landscape, alongside a comment from Katsuyuki Fukunishi, the Japanese voice of Kafka Hibino and Kaiju No. 8.1
The official Kaiju No. 8 website confirms that the anime’s final chapter is in production, while its existing English-language key visual gives the story an official first-party image.2 No release month or international theatrical schedule has been announced yet.
The film follows the first two anime seasons, which adapted Naoya Matsumoto’s manga about Kafka Hibino, a former kaiju-cleanup worker who gains the ability to transform into a kaiju while trying to join the Defense Force. The official site identifies Production I.G and Studio Khara as the anime’s production partners.2
The announcement also leaves the central conflict hanging over the film: Kafka and the Defense Force still face Kaiju No. 9 and the threat posed by the series’ evolving monsters. For now, the 2027 window is the only confirmed timing, so claims about a precise cinema date or streaming rollout would be premature.
Our opinion
A feature film is a sensible way to give Kaiju No. 8 a defined finale rather than rushing its remaining story into a short television run. The announcement is still light on practical details, but confirming the format and year gives fans a clear reason to watch for the first proper trailer and release-date news.
More details about the film’s staff, cast, release schedule and international distribution are expected later.
