Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission film concludes the anime in 2027

Kaiju No. 8 will end with a theatrical film in 2027, with Production I.G and director Shigeyuki Miya returning for the final mission.

Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission monster towering over a ruined city

Kaiju No. 8 will conclude with a theatrical film, Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission, opening in 2027. The official anime account announced the film alongside a new super teaser visual, while Production I.G is returning to animate the concluding instalment. 123

What we know

The announcement confirms that the previously teased concluding project is a film rather than another television season. Shigeyuki Miya, who directed the television anime, is directing the movie, and Naoya Matsumoto remains credited as the creator of the original manga. 12

The teaser presents a many-eyed kaiju looming over a ruined city beneath the tagline “The age of humans comes to an end.” The English-language account has also shared an English version under the The Final Mission title. No exact opening date, cast announcement or distributor has been confirmed yet. 12

The film follows the first two seasons, which introduced Kafka Hibino, a clean-up worker who transforms into the powerful Kaiju No. 8 while pursuing his ambition of joining the Defense Force. Crunchyroll currently streams those seasons in the UK, Ireland, the United States and other territories. 1

A final battle in 2027

The new film is positioned as the anime’s concluding chapter, giving the adaptation a theatrical endpoint rather than announcing a third television season. More details about its release plans and distribution are expected later.

Our opinion

Turning the conclusion into a film is a suitably large move for Kaiju No. 8, especially with the teaser visual leaning into a city-sized threat. The lack of a precise date is not surprising this early, but the return of Production I.G and Miya gives the final chapter a clear creative link to the series that came before it.
