Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi adds five cast members as the official site confirms production of the second film.
Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (目覚める神秘) has added five cast members to its new theatrical series, while the production team has confirmed that the second film is moving ahead.
The first film opened in Japan on October 23. Nana Mizuki joins as Srajo, Akeno Watanabe as Nishagora, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Yataramar, and Nao Tōyama and Yume Miyamoto as Sherumi and Menae.1 The official film site also published a new key visual centred on Srajo and the Hail Hex group.2
Returning cast members include Mariya Ise as Reg, Miyu Tomita as Riko, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi and Misaki Kuno as Faputa. Sumire Morohoshi and Takanori Hoshino had already joined as Tepaste and Cravagli.1
Masayuki Kojima is directing at Kinema Citrus, with Hideyuki Kurata handling scripts. Kazuchika Kise and Yuka Kuroda are returning as character designers, while Kevin Penkin remains attached to the music. Penkin and Mori Calliope perform the theme song “Chain of the Abyss”.1
The announcement does not provide a release date for the second film. It confirms that the theatrical project will continue beyond Mezameru Shinpi, following the television anime and earlier films.
Our opinion
This is a cast announcement that changes the shape of the film rather than merely padding out a press release. Srajo and the Hail Hex visual give the movie a clear identity, while confirmation of a second film suggests the production is planning for a longer journey through the Abyss instead of compressing the material into one feature. The missing sequel date is frustrating, but the Japanese launch, strong new visual and returning creative team make this a meaningful update for fans.
