Made in Abyss theatrical series Part 2 enters production
The Made in Abyss theatrical series is continuing with Part 2, as the official website confirms production and unveils a new Hail Hex key visual.
The Made in Abyss theatrical series will continue with a second instalment, with the official website confirming that Part 2 is now in production. The announcement arrived on October 23, the same day the first film opened in Japan.
The official campaign also unveiled a new key visual centred on Srajo and the Curse Fleet known as Hail Hex. The image shows the group together in the forest, giving the new film a clear visual identity before further production details are announced.
The first film, Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery, continues the story after Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. It follows Riko, Reg, Nanachi and Faputa as they descend into the Abyss’ seventh layer, with Kinema Citrus returning as the animation studio.
The first film’s announced staff includes director Masayuki Kojima, screenplay writer Hideyuki Kurata, and character designers Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise. The wider cast includes Nana Mizuki as Srajo, Akeno Watanabe as Nishagora, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Yataramaru, Nao Toyama as Sherumi and Yume Miyamoto as Menae.
The official announcement does not yet give Part 2 a release date, format beyond its place in the theatrical series, or a full production schedule. For now, the confirmed news is that the continuation is moving ahead and that Srajo’s Hail Hex group will be part of the story’s next chapter.
Our opinion
This is the sort of sequel announcement that works because it gives fans a meaningful piece of information rather than pretending a release date exists. The Hail Hex visual also makes the continuation feel like a genuine next step for the film series, while the lack of a date means expectations can stay grounded until the production team has more to share.
The first film’s opening gives Part 2 a strong launchpad, but the wait for more concrete details could be substantial. Until the official site confirms a schedule, the key visual is the clearest sign of what comes next.
