Medalist movie lands in cinemas on 19 February 2027 with a new teaser
The ice is calling again: Medalist is getting a theatrical anime film, and a fresh official teaser has put a hard date on its Japanese debut.
What's actually going on: The official Medalist* website has confirmed that the film will open in Japanese cinemas on Friday, 19 February 2027, while releasing a special preview video and new character visuals.23 The official trailer is hosted on the franchise's YouTube channel, rather than being an unauthorised repost, and is available to watch here.4
This is a theatrical anime film, not a third TV season.23
Animation production remains with ENGI, the studio behind the television adaptation.3
The returning core team includes director Yasutaka Yamamoto, character designer and chief animation director Chinatsu Kameyama, and series composer and screenwriter Jukki Hanada.13

The announcement follows the conclusion of the second TV season, which ran for nine episodes after the first season’s 12-episode run.1

Medalist has always understood that figure skating is not simply about landing jumps. The story follows former skater Tsukasa and determined newcomer Inori as they chase the world stage together.1 A cinema presentation should give the choreography more room to breathe, while the larger format could make every wobble, edge and last-second recovery feel properly nerve-shredding.
There is one important catch for international fans.
The 19 February date is explicitly a Japanese theatrical release date; the official announcement does not confirm UK, US or wider overseas cinema screenings, nor does it name an international distributor for the film.23
Disney+’s existing availability for the TV anime should not be read as confirmation that the movie will launch there at the same time.12

This is exactly the right next step for Medalist: a focused theatrical continuation rather than padding the ice rink with another television cour. The teaser has earned attention, but overseas viewers should keep their skates on until regional release details arrive. For now, watch the official preview, revisit the series and expect the Japanese premiere to be the first date—not necessarily everyone’s date.
