MyGO!!!!! covers KANA-BOON’s “Naimononedari” song

BanG Dream! band MyGO!!!!! has released a cover of KANA-BOON’s “Naimononedari”, adding another sharp-edged rock song to the group’s growing catalogue.

MyGO!!!!! takes on KANA-BOON

The cover was reported by Anime Corner on 24 September. MyGO!!!!! previously tackled “Seishun Complex”, the opening theme from Bocchi the Rock!, making this latest release another bridge between the band’s fractured, emotionally charged sound and modern Japanese rock.

MyGO!!!!! is the band at the centre of the BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! anime, with Tomori Takamatsu, Anon Chihaya, Rāna Kaname, Soyo Nagasaki and Taki Shiina forming the lineup. The series turned their messy relationships and bruising live performances into the franchise’s most compelling drama.

A cover that fits the band

KANA-BOON’s “Naimononedari” gives MyGO!!!!! material with plenty of room for their particular mix of urgency and vulnerability. It is a natural choice for a group whose appeal comes from songs that sound less polished than emotionally exposed.

Our opinion

This is the right sort of cover for MyGO!!!!!: recognisable, energetic and just awkward enough to feel like it belongs to them. The band works best when BanG Dream! lets its songs carry the emotional bruises rather than sanding everything into glossy pop, and KANA-BOON’s track should give the performers plenty of room to keep that tension alive.
