Pan Dorobou (パンどろぼう) is getting a new wave of FuRyu prize merchandise in Japanese amusement centres, with six items scheduled to arrive across late October and November. The line-up includes a roughly 29cm plush, mascots, a plush puppet, a storage case and other character goods. 1

What is coming

The October releases are a super-sized plush, a mascot-topped ballpoint pen and a large blanket. The plush is designed around Pan Dorobou’s bread-shaped silhouette, while the blanket uses the anime’s main visual. November’s additions are a puppet, a three-design mascot range and a small plush storage case styled with salt, sugar and butter canisters. 1

FuRyu says the prizes will roll out at amusement facilities across Japan, although availability will vary by venue. The same campaign also includes a social-media giveaway, with three prize sets offered in a promotion running from 29 October to 11 November at 11:59pm Japan time. 1

The character comes from Keiko Shibata’s popular picture-book series, which has also been adapted into an anime broadcast on NHK E-Tele. KADOKAWA’s official Pan Dorobou site confirms the property’s current anime and merchandise activity, as well as its first-party character artwork. 2

Our opinion

A 29cm plush is a suitably large way to sell Pan Dorobou’s deliberately odd bread-based design, and the spread of practical items gives the release more range than a single crane-game figure. The important caveat is the usual one for prize launches: the announcement names a national roll-out, not guaranteed stock at every arcade, so collectors should check local listings before making a trip.
