Please Excuse My Younger Brothers has found a new musical accomplice, with Neguse. taking over the opening theme for the anime’s second part. Aniplex has also dropped a special promo video, because apparently one family of four younger brothers was not enough chaos for a single announcement.

According to Anime News Network’s report, the new song is called “LOVE & LIKE” and comes with a preview in a video featuring comments from the four-member band. The update was revealed during Aniplex’s One Focus livestream.

What's actually going on

Neguse. performs “LOVE & LIKE”, replacing DISH//’s current opening theme, “Aikotoba”. Reira Ushio continues to perform the ending theme, “Clover”. Aniplex is streaming the special promo video and a separate video featuring Neguse.’s comments about the song.

The television anime is adapting Akira Ozaki’s manga and is running for two consecutive cours, with 24 episodes planned. It began airing in Japan on 3 July, while Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs. The cast includes Naomi Ōzora as Ito Narita, Toshiki Masuda as Gen Narita, Taku Yashiro as Raku Narita, Kenshō Ono as Syu Narita and Momoka Terasawa as Rui Narita.

Why you should care

Theme-song changes can be easy to overlook, but they are one of the fastest ways for a long-running seasonal anime to signal a shift in mood. A fresh opening gives the second part its own identity, while “LOVE & LIKE” should give viewers something new to latch on to before the next episode starts.

The premise remains a neatly combustible family comedy: Ito moves in with her mother’s new family and discovers she now has four younger step-brothers, including the aloof Gen. Add a new band, a new theme and another dozen episodes, and the series has plenty of runway left to turn domestic awkwardness into proper anime melodrama.

Our opinion

This is a welcome refresh rather than a reason to panic-buy anything. Please Excuse My Younger Brothers already has a clear hook, and a new opening theme is a sensible way to give its second part a little extra energy. If the family chaos has been working for you, keep watching; if it has not, a new song probably will not perform a miracle — but at least the soundtrack is getting a decent upgrade.
