The cast of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend gathered in Tokyo as the series' theatrical conclusion opened in Japan.

The cast of Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend gathered in Tokyo for a public thank-you stage greeting as the film opened in Japan. Kaito Ishikawa, Asami Seto, Manaka Iwami and Inori Minase appeared at the event, with the performers reflecting on the end of the theatrical series. 1

The film's Japanese title is Seishun Buta Yarou wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai (青春ブタ野郎はディアフレンドの夢を見ない). It is the concluding theatrical chapter of the Rascal Does Not Dream anime series, which began with the television anime Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai in 2018. The new film opened in Japan on 16 October. 12

A farewell for the cast

Ishikawa, who voices Sakuta Azusagawa, said the world of the series had become so appealing that he wished the real world could be filled with the same kindness. He added that the series would continue to live through what audiences carry with them after watching it. 1

Seto, the voice of Mai Sakurajima, described the event as a mixture of gratitude and sadness. She said the ending still did not feel entirely real, while recalling how the film left her wanting to tell somebody about it immediately after a screening. Her comments brought an emotional note to a gathering that was otherwise framed as a celebration of the film's release. 1

Iwami, who plays Miori Mitou, said the stage greeting was her fourth appearance connected with the work's completion. She spoke about seeing the audience's expressions and feeling how strongly fans had been waiting for the conclusion. Minase, who voices Shoko Makinohara, thanked viewers for continuing to express their love for the series and described the event as a chance to meet those fans face to face. 1

The final film

The official portal identifies Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend as the latest entry in the long-running anime project, while the official trailer promotes its 16 October Japanese release. The story remains tied to Fujisawa, the seaside setting used by the series, and the film is positioned as the theatrical conclusion rather than a new television season. 23

The stage greeting therefore served two purposes: it promoted the film during its opening weekend and gave the principal cast a chance to discuss what the characters and production had meant to them. Oricon's report records comments from all four performers, rather than treating the event as a single-star appearance. 1

What happens next

The Japanese opening is the confirmed release point in the available sources. International dates, distribution arrangements and streaming plans are separate questions and should not be assumed from the domestic launch. Fans outside Japan will need to wait for announcements from the rights holders and local distributors.

Our opinion

A final film earns more attention when its cast can explain what the ending meant without pretending the goodbye is painless. The stage greeting's mix of gratitude, tears and fan-facing warmth gives this release a human angle beyond the usual trailer recap. It also makes clear why the film matters to the performers: this is not simply another instalment, but a closing conversation with the audience that followed the story from its 2018 television beginning.
