The Promised Neverland and Blue Box get new novels
Shueisha will publish new novels for The Promised Neverland and Blue Box on December 4, with Nanao returning to write both.
Shueisha is expanding two major manga properties with new novels: The Promised Neverland and Blue Box are both due to receive new stories on December 4.1
Two manga worlds return in prose
Nanao, who wrote the previous novel adaptations for both series, is handling the new books. The Promised Neverland: A 10th Year Gift follows Emma and the other children after the manga’s ending, with additional stories involving the Lambda group and Phil’s younger cohort.12
The book marks the franchise’s 10th anniversary and continues a run of The Promised Neverland novels that began with A Letter from Norman in 2018. Shueisha’s listing describes the new story as the fifth novel adaptation.2
Meanwhile, Blue Box Epilogue will look both before and after the manga’s final episode. Its stories include Taiki and Chinatsu taking a drive after Taiki earns his driving licence, alongside a story about Hina as a university student.1
Release details
Both novels are scheduled for release in Japan on December 4. That date also marks the planned publication of Blue Box’s 28th and final collected volume, giving the epilogue novel a suitably timed companion release.1
Shueisha’s official listing confirms the new The Promised Neverland book and identifies Kaiu Shirai, Posuka Demizu and Nanao in its credits.2 Anime News Network’s report also links to the publisher’s listings for the two titles.1
Our opinion
This is a smart way to extend two finished manga without pretending their original runs are still ongoing. The Promised Neverland has an obvious anniversary hook and plenty of unexplored space around its surviving characters, while Blue Box can use an epilogue to give its supporting cast a little more room after the finale. The December 4 pairing makes both books feel like deliberate send-offs rather than random afterthoughts.
