Reincarnated as a Sword II (転生したら剣でしたII) is heading into its second episode, with new story details and preview stills showing Fran and the sentient sword Master entering a dangerous floating-island dungeon.1
Fran enters the floating-island dungeon
Episode 2, titled “Jean Doobie Was Excellent”, follows Fran and Master as they work with the necromancer Jean Doobie. The group is attempting to conquer a dungeon on a floating island, where undead beasts roam.12
The episode synopsis says the party initially makes steady progress while gaining new skills. That changes when they encounter a “soul eater” — an undead creature that preys on other undead monsters.1
When to watch
The episode is scheduled to air on Tokyo MX, ABC TV, BS Asahi and AT-X from 14 October, with streaming details listed by the official site.12 The anime is produced by C2C, with Shinsuke Ishihira directing and the main cast returning for the second season.12
Our opinion
The floating-island dungeon gives the sequel a useful early hook: it expands the world without losing the odd-couple appeal of a cat-eared adventurer and her overprotective sword companion. A monster that eats undead is also exactly the sort of escalating threat that can make a familiar dungeon crawl feel properly nasty.
