Saga of Tanya the Evil film concert set for March 2027
KADOKAWA is putting the series’ score in front of a live orchestra for the first time on 20 March 2027, with footage from both TV seasons and the film — and Aoi Yūki recording lines on stage.
Saga of Tanya the Evil is getting its first film concert. KADOKAWA has announced a one-day event at Ota Kumin Hall Aprico in Kamata, Tokyo, on 20 March 2027, built around the series’ score played live while footage from both television seasons and the 2019 film runs behind the orchestra.
Two shows, and the whole series on screen
The concert marks ten years since the anime adaptation began, and the programme leans on all of it: music from the first and second seasons and the film, performed by a live orchestra, with the series’ theme songs included. Cast members will also record lines live during the performance, which is the rarer thing for an anniversary event to offer. Both shows run between 90 and 120 minutes: doors open at 13:30 for a 14:15 start in the afternoon, and at 17:15 for an 18:00 start in the evening.
Katayama, Yūki and the guests on stage
Shuji Katayama of Team-MAX, who wrote the series’ score, is named as the concert’s composer. Guesting are Aoi Yūki, the voice of Tanya, alongside Yūsuke Kobayashi (Grants), Daiki Hamano (Weiss) and Haruka Tomatsu (Mary), with the band MYTH & ROID, whose songs have fronted the anime, also on the bill. KADOKAWA organises and plans the event, Team-MAX produces it and Courage operates it.
Tickets, lotteries and a metal charm
Seats come in three tiers, all tax included: S seats with bonus merchandise at ¥16,500, A seats with merchandise at ¥13,200 and A seats at ¥9,900. The afternoon and evening performances carry different versions of the entry gift, an original metal charm with a character plate — Tanya in a tuxedo for the matinee, Tanya in a dress for the evening — with the designs to be published later. The first lottery takes applications from 24 September to 4 October 2026, with results on 6 October and payment between 7 and 9 October, and a second lottery runs from 16 to 25 October, with results on 27 October and payment from 28 to 30 October. Applications are capped at four tickets, and children of primary school age and above need their own seat.
Our opinion
A film concert is the honest way to mark ten years of a series whose joke is that its hero keeps being reborn into the same war. Tanya’s reputation rests less on its plotting than on the friction between Katayama’s martial score and a protagonist who is a child-shaped accountant of violence, and that friction is exactly what survives the removal of the animation: put the score in a hall, dim the lights and the show is the sound. Choosing footage from both seasons and the film rather than only the newest episodes is the right instinct as well — an anniversary concert should sell a decade, not a broadcast slot.
The live recording is the part to watch. Cast performances in front of an audience are rare because they are unforgiving, and they only work when the performers have something to play against; here that is a full orchestra and a room reacting to it. If it lands, the event will be remembered as the night the series’ sound design became the main attraction. If it does not, the best seats cost ¥16,500. On the strength of the score, the bet is not a foolish one.
