Sanrio Characters and Hapidanbui winter wear returns to Don Quijote

Yuji Nishimura’s Sanrio Characters and Hapidanbui winter clothing and accessories are returning to selected Don Quijote stores in Japan.

Yuji Nishimura-designed Sanrio Characters loungewear sets displayed in multiple colours

Sanrio Characters and Hapidanbui (サンリオキャラクターズ and はぴだんぶい) are returning to selected Don Quijote stores in a new autumn-winter collaboration designed by creator Yuji Nishimura (にしむらゆうじ). The range combines warm loungewear with character-themed clothing and accessories, and is being rolled out from 13 October while stocks and store availability vary.

The collaboration comes from apparel maker Branch Out, which says the collection uses special designs for Sanrio Characters and Hapidanbui. The line includes boa two-piece sets, hooded boa sets, three-pair sock packs and a die-cut pouch shaped around the Hapidanbui characters. Prices range from ¥999 before tax for the sock set to ¥4,999 before tax for the hooded two-piece set.

The boa two-piece set costs ¥4,499 before tax, or ¥4,949 including tax, and comes in M and L. The hooded version costs ¥4,999 before tax, or ¥5,499 including tax, also in M and L. Other items include a die-cut pouch, embroidered Hapidanbui hoodies, sweatshirts and long-sleeved tracksuit sets.

Branch Out says the clothing is exclusive to selected Don Quijote stores, with individual shops receiving different stock. Don Quijote’s own product page also lists participating stores, so availability should be checked locally rather than assumed nationwide. The announcement does not promise an international online release.

Why this collaboration matters

This is a merchandise relaunch rather than a new animated project, but it sits neatly within the way character brands now reach fans through everyday products. The appeal is the breadth of the range: shoppers can choose between recognisable Sanrio designs, Hapidanbui character faces and Yuji Nishimura’s softer illustration style, instead of a single novelty item. For UK readers, the practical catch is distribution: the announcement names selected Japanese locations.

Our opinion

The strongest part of the range is its useful, low-commitment format: socks, loungewear and a pouch are easier to wear or use than a purely display-focused collectible. The character-by-character colour choices give fans a clear way to pick a favourite without turning the whole collection into one loud print. The limited store rollout is less convenient, though, and makes this more interesting as a Japanese retail spot than an immediately accessible global release.
