Dengeki Bunko announced on 3 October that Takuma Sakai's light novel series The Science Notes by Delta and Gamma, or Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note in Japanese, is getting an anime adaptation. The news broke during Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026 and arrived with an announcement video narrated by Kanna Nakamura, who voices Rio Iwama, built around art from the novels' illustrator, Asagi Tosaka.

What the series is about

The story follows the science club at Tsunagai High School as its members work through the small mysteries that turn up in their everyday lives, with a first-love thread running underneath. It is a puzzle-box school story rather than a fantasy, which puts it in a noticeably different lane from most of the imprint's recent anime announcements.

Where the books stand

Kadokawa shipped the first novel, illustrated by Asagi Tosaka, in November 2024, and the fourth volume is due on 9 October. Lap Tsutsumi launched a manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Comic Dengeki DaiohG on 27 April. Sakai took the gold prize at the 26th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2019 and went on to write Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig, which itself became a television anime in 2023.

Our opinion

The most interesting thing about this announcement is what it is not. Dengeki Bunko's anime pipeline has leaned hard on isekai and fantasy for years, and a high-school science club solving ordinary mysteries is a deliberate step sideways, closer to a mystery-of-the-week comfort watch than to the imprint's usual power fantasy. Sakai already has one adaptation behind him, so the publisher knows what his name converts to on screen, and the festival gave the title a voice-led teaser rather than a bare logo drop. What it did not give us is a studio or a broadcast window, and for a series whose whole appeal rests on tone and chemistry, those two names will decide everything.
