Shangri-La Frontier is heading back into the game. Season 3 will premiere on 10 January 2027, the anime's official website has confirmed, revealing a new key visual carrying the tagline "Konton ga Hazeru" — chaos erupts.

When does *Shangri-La Frontier* season 3 start?

10 January 2027 at 5:00 p.m. JST, which is 8:00 a.m. in the UK and 3:00 a.m. on the US east coast. It goes out on MBS, TBS and 26 affiliated channels, the same late-afternoon network slot the first two seasons used.

How long does the season run?

Two continuous cours, which works out at about six months of episodes without a break in the middle. That is the same pattern as the first two seasons: season 1 began in October 2023 and season 2 in October 2024, and both ran two cours back to back rather than splitting the year.

Who is making season 3?

C2C is back on animation, with Toshiyuki Kubooka as chief director and Hiro Ōki directing. Naoki Kotani is assistant director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is overseeing and writing the scripts, Ayumi Kurashima returns as character designer and chief animation director, and MONACA composes the music again. The wider staff includes sub-character designer Riku Takizawa, monster design by Yoshihiro Nagamori, Hiroshi Arisawa and Naoya Sonoda, 3D CG from Heartbeat, art direction by Chiho Wada and sound direction by Akiko Fujita. The voice cast returns from season 2 to reprise their roles.

Where can I watch *Shangri-La Frontier* season 3?

Crunchyroll will stream the new season, and its own teaser trailer for the season states the January 2027 window — so the simulcast home is settled even though the exact streaming time has not been published yet. Seasons 1 and 2 streamed as they aired, and season 2 has an English dub.

Where does the story come from?

The anime adapts Katarina's Shangri-La Frontier web novel, which began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō site in May 2017, with Ryōsuke Fuji's manga adaptation launching in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July 2020 and Kodansha USA publishing it in English. It follows Rakurō Hizutome, a high schooler who specialises in terrible games, and what happens when he min-maxes his way into a very good one. The franchise is also stretching into games: Shangri-La Frontier ~The Seven Colossi~, the first game in the series, is due this year from Netmarble Nexus.

Our opinion

The number worth paying attention to here is not the date but the shape of the order: six months, commissioned without a split. Anime sequels increasingly hedge by producing one cour and deciding on the rest later, so a two-cour commitment announced four months out reads as genuine confidence in the production line rather than optimism in a press note. It also raises the stakes. A half-year run has to hold its animation quality through the point where most television anime start rationing their best cuts, and C2C is committing to that while the manga continues and a Netmarble Nexus game is also in flight. The tagline is doing a lot of work too — "chaos erupts" promises escalation, not a victory lap, which is the right instinct for a story whose hero is at his happiest when a game is broken. Our reservation is the vagueness around streaming: Crunchyroll has the season and has said so, but with no simulcast time published, viewers outside Japan are still guessing at when they can actually watch it.
