Sound! Euphonium Final Film Part 2 Gets New Footage

Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 2 has reached its grand finale, and Kyoto Animation is marking the Japanese theatrical opening with a new video packed with fresh footage. After a decade of brass, tears and increasingly serious school-band politics, the franchise is finally taking its last bow.

Anime News Network reports that the film opened in Japan on 11 September. The newly released video comes from Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the series, and offers another look at the conclusion to Kumiko Oumae’s long musical journey.

What's actually going on

Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 2 is the second half of the franchise’s 2026 theatrical finale. The first film opened in Japan on 24 April, while Part 2 arrived in cinemas on 11 September. The project follows the events of the third television season, which premiered in April 2024.

Kyoto Animation describes the film as the definitive conclusion to the series, with newly created scenes and performance sequences that did not appear in the television anime. Tatsuya Ishihara serves as chief director and Taichi Ogawa directs, with Jukki Hanada writing the new screenplay.

The returning production team also includes character designers Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda, composer Akito Matsuda, and the familiar voice cast led by Tomoyo Kurosawa as Kumiko. The story remains rooted in the Kitauji High School concert band, where musical ambition and personal drama have been sharing the same stage since 2015.

Why you should care

This is more than another compilation film wearing a fancy hat. Sound! Euphonium has spent ten years making the hard work of ensemble music feel like a sports drama, and the final movie is designed to give that story room for a proper theatrical send-off. The new scenes and expanded performances are precisely the sort of material that benefits from a cinema screen and a decent sound system.

There is still no Western release information in the announcement, so international viewers should resist the urge to start refreshing streaming services like a nervous percussionist. Crunchyroll previously streamed the third season across Europe and other territories, but that does not confirm where the final film will appear.

Our opinion

A decade-long anime ending deserves more than a rushed epilogue, and this project at least sounds like it is treating the finale as an event. The theatrical-first approach makes sense for a series built around music and performance. If you have followed Kumiko from her first hesitant notes, this is one final movement worth hearing properly — even if the wait for an international release is going to test everyone’s patience.
