SPYAIR sets 17-song BEST OF ANIME album for 21 October

SPYAIR's 17-song BEST OF ANIME collection arrives on 21 October with themes from Gintama, BLEACH, HAIKYU!! and more.

SPYAIR will release BEST OF ANIME: 16 Years of SPYAIR × Anime — The Definitive Collection on 21 October, bringing together 17 anime theme songs from across the Japanese rock band's catalogue. Sony Music's official announcement says the set combines songs released since SPYAIR's major debut in 2010 with newly recorded self-cover versions. 1

The album gives the band's anime work a single home, from Gintama and BLEACH to HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. AnimeTV's tracklist also confirms that the collection includes Awake, the opening theme for The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System, alongside the band's best-known older themes. 2

What is on the album

The 17-song tracklist opens with Awake and Kill the Noise, followed by Ao, Orange and Wadachi. The middle of the collection moves through One Day, I Wanna Be…, Scramble, RAGE OF DUST, I'm a Believer and Imagination, before closing with JUST ONE LIFE, Genjo Destruction, Sakuramitsutsuki, My World, Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!!) and Last Moment. 1

That spread makes the album more than a simple greatest-hits package. Sony Music describes the release as a complete collection of SPYAIR's anime themes, with self-covers of songs from the band's earlier years sitting alongside newer material. The limited-edition version also includes a Blu-ray of SPYAIR's RE-BIRTH tour performance at LINE CUBE SHIBUYA, recorded in May 2026, plus behind-the-scenes footage. 1

The album will be available in a limited-production edition and a standard edition. Sony lists the standard CD at 3,500 yen and the limited package at 11,000 yen, with streaming, download and CD pre-order links available through SPYAIR's official release page. 1

SPYAIR's next live dates

The release arrives shortly before SPYAIR begins a six-date European run. The announced schedule includes Vienna on 30 October, Paris on 2 November, Eindhoven on 4 November, Frankfurt on 5 November, London on 7 November and Milan on 8 November. The band will then begin its SPYAIR JAPAN TOUR 2026–2027 – EP.01 in December, with dates in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Tokyo. 2

The timing gives the collection a useful second purpose: it is both a catalogue of the band's anime work and a tidy introduction for listeners who encounter SPYAIR through the upcoming tour or one of its newer themes. It also puts the band's long relationship with anime music in a form that is easy to explore without tracking down 17 separate releases.

Our opinion

A dedicated anime collection is the right move for SPYAIR because the band's strongest international identity is tied to these themes. The tracklist is broad enough to cover multiple generations of anime fans, while Awake and the self-covers stop it from feeling like a museum piece. The main question is whether listeners will want the limited edition for its live Blu-ray, but the standard album already makes a convincing case as a single starting point for SPYAIR's anime catalogue.
