STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is adding a new ending to the time-travel visual novel, with the game’s creators explaining how the route grew out of an older story about Moeka and the Gamma Attractor Field. The details come from a new Anime News Network interview with producer Tatsuya Matsubara and scenario writer Naotaka Hayashi. 1

The remake is not simply a graphical refresh. The creators told ANN that the project was rebuilt to modernise the original text adventure, while bringing back scenes from the first game and refining material from STEINS;GATE ELITE. RE:BOOT returns to a traditional text-adventure structure, adds new writing and includes a route that branches from the story after Chapter 9. 12

How the new ending works

The added route reworks the earlier STEINS;GATE Drama CD Gamma story, Hyde of the Dark Dimension, into a branch that connects to the main game. Hayashi said the drama CD was originally conceived as a standalone what-if story centred on Moeka. For RE:BOOT, the team changed it so the new ending could follow the main narrative rather than sit outside it. 1

That meant making deliberate changes to the story’s structure. The team chose not to include Suzuha in the new route because her appearance could weaken the impact of her return later in Chapter 11. The new branch grows from the end of Chapter 9, with Nae sending a D-Mail that pushes Okabe into the Gamma Worldline. The interview says the precise contents of that message are left unclear, preserving the shock of the shift. 1

The creators also discussed adapting the anime’s episode 25 or the film STEINS;GATE: The Movie − Load Region of Déjà Vu as game content, but said there are currently no plans for either. A simultaneous romance route involving all the female characters was also dismissed because it would undermine the atmosphere of the work. 1

What this means for RE:BOOT

The extra ending gives RE:BOOT a more substantial identity than a straightforward remaster. Alongside refreshed assets, new dialogue and a smoother reading experience, it gives long-time players a route that revisits one of the series’ stranger worldline ideas while keeping it inside the main story. The official publisher page also lists the additional Gamma Worldline route among the remake’s new content. 2

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is scheduled for 29 October 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, according to the official site. 3 The official launch trailer is below.

Our opinion

A new ending is exactly the sort of addition that can justify revisiting a classic visual novel, provided it respects the shape of the original rather than treating nostalgia as a shortcut. RE:BOOT’s Gamma route sounds promising because it is tied to an existing piece of STEINS;GATE history but has been rebuilt to serve the game’s main narrative. That makes it more interesting than a cosmetic remaster, while the creators’ decision to leave some answers unresolved suggests they understand that mystery is part of the series’ appeal.
