The official website for the television anime of Katsuhisa Minami’s The Fable has begun streaming a teaser for its second season, confirming a January 2027 premiere.

The cast returns

Kazuyuki Okitsu returns as Akira Satō and Miyuki Sawashiro as Yōko Satō, alongside Kana Hanazawa as Misaki Shimizu, Akio Ohtsuka as Takeshi Ebihara, Tetsuo Komura as Boss, Jun Fukushima as Jackal Tomioka, Kouji Ishii as Hiroshi Hamada, Ryōta Iwasaki as Kuroshio, Yūdai Mino as Katsuya Takahashi, Koujirou Takahashi as Shūichi Sunagawa, Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi as Matsu, Takeharu Ōnishi as Kenjirō Takōda, Takumi Asahina as Etsuji Kainuma, Kazuya Ichijou as Master and Yūki Kaji as Yūki Kawai.

The same team at Tezuka Productions

Ryōsuke Takahashi returns to direct at Tezuka Productions, having previously overseen Armored Trooper Votoms, Phoenix and Ozma. Yūya Takashima handles series composition again and writes the scripts with Mayumi Morita, while Kyūma Ōshita and Saki Hasegawa return as character designers.

Minami’s manga has passed 30 million copies in circulation, and the third part, The Fable The third secret, is still running in Kodansha’s Young Magazine.

Our opinion

The first season was an odd, enjoyable thing: a comedy about a legendary hitman learning to be ordinary, punctuated by violence that never quite let you relax. Keeping Ryōsuke Takahashi and the full cast is the right call, because the show’s appeal lives in deadpan delivery rather than plot. The risk with a second season is repetition, and a January 2027 slot gives Tezuka Productions time to find a new angle. Lean further into the absurdity of Akira’s civilian life and this becomes one of the year’s better returning series.
